Peter Holbrook, CEO
Peter Holbrook has been CEO of Social Enterprise UK since January 2010, and works to promote social enterprise as a model for changing both business and society.
Prior to taking on this role Peter headed up the Sunlight Development Trust, one of the UK's most dynamic and successful social enterprises. Sunlight, in Kent, works to tackle long-standing health and social inequalities in the community. Peter oversaw its development from ‘project sunlight’ to become one of the of the country’s most high profile ‘community anchors’.
As a result of his successful leadership of Sunlight, in 2007 Peter was appointed to be one of the UK’s Social Enterprise Ambassadors – a scheme supported by the Cabinet Office and co-ordinated by Social Enterprise UK. In this role he advocated for social enterprise by lobbying politicians, speaking at events and representing the sector in the media.
Peter has previously worked for Oxfam, Greenpeace and various disability charities. He has experience of working in overseas development, community development and public health. Peter started his career with Marks and Spencer PLC and has also spent time with Body Shop International.
