SEUK Marketing and Communications Assistant (intern)

We're looking for a talented marketing and communications intern to join our team to work on a number of different campaigns and projects.

As an Intern, you will be supporting Head of Media & Communications to actively help manage digital marketing and social media activities across the platforms and thrive on optimising SEUK’s campaigns. To build your knowledge in order to pursue a career in Social Enterprise Sector.

This will be a paid internship at our London office.

The role involves working closely with all members of staff, in particular liaising with the Marketing & Communications Officer and the Acting Head of Media & Communications.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting on social media (Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn) including input into strategy development
  • Updating and editing website with campaign/policy updates, member news, events and jobs
  • Putting together digital mailers using adestra to promote SEUK work and activity – analysing open rates and click throughs and using this to guide future activity
  • Supporting the membership team with email campaigns to potential new members
  • Helping keep data clean from mailer bounce backs
  • Helping to put together the SEUK monthly newsletter and member newsletter
  • Supporting on campaign activity
  • Media support
  • Leading on our monthly webinar series – including identifying areas of interest, lining up speakers from our membership and promoting the webinar
  • Engaging with our members to learn more about social enterprise and how we can support their organisations through our campaigns and press activity
  • Supporting the launch of SEUK’s new website and help drive new business opportunities through the new platform
  • Working with the wider SEUK team on relevant campaigns and events
  • To utilise a range of media avenues to promote SEUK’s membership
  • Work with other departments across the organisation to maximise engagement with membership recruitment strategy
  • Work with membership team on delivery of other member communications (press releases, news stories, social media etc)
  • Work closely with Head of Media & Comms and Marketing & Communications Officer on developing an impactful programme that hits targets
  • Other tasks necessary to support the team

Position in the organisation:

  • The post holder will be required to work closely with colleagues from the Business, Finance and Communications teams of Social Enterprise UK
  • The post holder will report to the Head of Media & Communications  

General duties and key responsibilities:

  • Support Social Enterprise UK’s wider programme of activities where necessary, undertaking other duties as required.
  • Maintain commercial confidentiality about Social Enterprise UK and partners’ activities.
  • Ensure the implementation of Social Enterprise UK’s Code of Conduct, Health and Safety policy and Equal Opportunities policy in all areas of the work.
  • Attend training courses or take part in additional aspects of Social Enterprise UK’s work that are relevant to the work as decided in conjunction with the Director of Business and Enterprise.
  • Ensure that all activities for which this post is responsible are carried out in accordance with Social Enterprise UK’s policies, to the highest ethical standards and in accordance with legal requirements, best practice and external guidelines. 
  • Service own administrative needs, maintain transparent and up to date computer and paper records of work.
  • Act as an ambassador for Social Enterprise UK as appropriate.

Experience/ Qualifications



A high degree of organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and ability to plan and prioritise workload, successfully plan meetings and meet deadlines


Excellent telephone manner and able to communicate and sell effectively to a range of audiences

Some understanding of Google Analytics and other social media analytics tools





Experience of working in

A social enterprise,

community or voluntary



Good standard of general education


Educated to Graduate level with experience




Knowledge/ Skills



Ability to prioritise a large and varied amount of administrative duties and deliver to tight timescales


Tact and ability to develop contact and build relationships, diplomacy and respect for confidentiality


Fully conversant with Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and familiar with CRM system


Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills


Open, assertive and good humour
